Title: The Future of Public Service with Senator Thom Tillis

On Tuesday, October 7, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) joined Georgetown’s Institute of Politics and Public Service for a conversation on free speech, polarization, and his vision of the future of public service. Tillis, along with GU Politics Executive Director Mo Elleithee, talked about the changes he has seen throughout his time in Congress, how he views AI and its influence, and the importance of free speech and comedy.

Before the conversation, Senator Tillis was able to meet a group of students from North Carolina, GU College Republicans leadership, the GU Politics Advance Team, and the GU Politics Student Advisory Board. During the conversation with Mo, they discussed polarization in Congress, the impacts of the current government shutdown, and why he has decided not to run for a third term. He also answered questions from students about AI benefits and concerns, memes and comedy’s role in free speech, and the upheaval of many longstanding institutions this year.
