Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Tom Perez has sought to unite the party under presidential nominee and former VP Joe Biden following a crowded and vigorous primary season. “Our goal is to make sure that everyone got a fair shake because we want to make sure that we come out of our Democratic primary united.” With all former nominees endorsing Biden and jumping on board to help his campaign, the Democratic push for the White House is picking up speed.
He also spent time answering students’ questions and sharing thoughts on voter access for 2020. Though concerned by how social distancing is made difficult by in-person voting, Perez was optimistic by the recent results from Wisconsin which saw 34% turnout (high for a primary) and a Democratic state Supreme Court nominee win their race. Despite contemporary challenges, both political and biological, he believes Democrats have the momentum needed to win this year.
