Congresswoman DeLauro presented her new book, The Least Among Us: Waging the Battle for the Vulnerable, to the Georgetown community. Her presentation focused on how helping other Americans is “our responsibility — a social responsibility — but a moral responsibility” as well. From the long-term legislative processes shaping the social safety net to more recent matters in progressive politics, DeLauro answered student questions and discussed her work in Congress.
Regarding what she saw as the White House’s tepid response to Hurricane Maria, the Congresswoman said, “Why did it take so long to visit Puerto Rico? Why did it take so long to waive the Jones Act? We ought to be standing up and screaming from the rafters. That is the only way that we will turn things around.”
