Tom Perriello, candidate for Governor, sat down with Georgetown students to answer questions and share his vision for Virginia. The first of a two-part series, the other event with Ralph Northam in April, this provided insider perspective on the gubernatorial race from primaries through Election Day. This event was co-sponsored by College Democrats.
Championing the Commonwealth’s unique character, Perriello emphasized that the next governor must protect Virginia’s values against President Trump’s incoming policies. “There rests a moral and constitutional obligation on the governor to look at the legal means available for noncompliance.” He noted that Virginia holds a purple, or moderate, stance in the nation’s political temperament, and how it progresses so might the nation. Wrapping up, Perriello said, “As someone who cares a great deal about Virginia politics, I wasn’t going to look at an election that determined the next 10 years or generation of politics in Virginia and allow Democrats to have less than the best chance we could.”
