Claire McCaskill, a long-time public servant for Missouri and a senator since 2007, offered advice on the need for strong relationships and willingness to compromise. And in praising her fellow female legislators on both sides of the aisle, McCaskill told the audience, “There aren’t as many women that are allergic to compromise as there are in terms of my male colleagues.” Overall, she imparted a belief in the value of levity, even in serious politics. “Being grounded is sometimes about having a sense of humor. I think all that matters.” Throughout, the Senator’s candor and own sense of humor connected well with students.
