Why Gridlock Rules Washington

On October 16th, 2017, GU Politics hosted two former Congressmen for an event looking at political gridlock.

Former Congressmen David Jolly (R-FL) and Patrick Murphy (D-FL) sat down with students to discuss hyper-partisanship, the less common bipartisanship, and how to improve the system. They asked students if the nation could find common ground on the most pressing issues of the day. As Jolly and Murphy believed, it is indeed possible. This conversation, moderated by Jill Lawrence, Commentary Editor for USA Today and author, analyzed the history, changing trends, and current nature of consensus-building in Washington.
