Sheikholeslami, who was named to the post in February 2022 by parent company Axel Springer, oversees all operations of the POLITICO Media Group. In her first year, Sheikholeslami developed an ambitious growth strategy designed to strengthen POLITICO’s position as the global news and information leader on politics, policy, and power. faced—transforming one of the city’s largest local newsrooms, its only classical station, and a world-class podcasting studio into remote operations in a matter of days. During her tenure, WNYC became the #1 public radio station in the country and ranked #3
among all news talk radio stations nationwide—commercial or nonprofit.
Prior to joining NYPR, Sheikholeslami served as CEO of Chicago Public Media, where she led dramatic growth in audience and revenue. Under her leadership, the group increased its focus on local news coverage by investing significantly in its newsroom, while launching new digital properties to expand the reach of its journalism. Sheikholeslami has held senior leadership roles across public and private media over her extensive 25-year career, helping both legacy institutions and new players grow and thrive.
Prior to joining Chicago Public Media, she served as Chief Product Officer for Everyday Health, and has also held leadership roles at The Washington Post and Condé Nast. As a senior executive at The Post, Sheikholeslami oversaw the historic integration of the publication’s print and online operations, leading its transformation into a digital news organization. She previously served on the Board of Patreon, the membership platform for artists and creators, and on the Board of National Public Radio (NPR). From 2012 to 2020 she served as Director of DHI, Inc. In 2020, she was a recipient of the Carnegie Corporation’s “Great Immigrants” award.
