In a conversation moderated by GU Politics Executive Director Mo Elleithee, Chairman Perez and Deputy Chair Ellison made their case to Georgetown students and other millennials on why they believe the Democratic party is the right choice for their generation. The conversation covered policy issues of interest to students, via Q&A, as well as the DNC’s youth engagement strategies. The two speakers made specific note of how much the country has changed over the lifetime of millennials. As such, the Democratic Party is changing too. Ellison said, “The way that we reach millennials is to recognize that this economy has shifted dramatically. The people in their forties and fifties may remember a time where you can work your way through with a part-time job. You can’t do that no more.”
Making his party’s ideals concise, Perez told the audience, “No matter where you were born, no matter what your first language was at home, no matter who you worship, no matter who you love — there is a place for you at the American table, and those are the pillars of the Democratic Party.”
