Senator Barrasso (COL ’74) was appointed to the Senate in 2007, and joined Georgetown students for a look at recent government developments in health care under the Obama administration. Focusing on health care reform and the Affordable Care Act, the Senator noted that the Supreme Court “ruled it was legal” which he disagreed with and for Congress now “the first step is actually to get rid of the mandate.” From there, he believed Republicans would be able to effectively offer an alternative to the ACA more in line with conservative, business-friendly values.
The Exit Interview series centered on the political and policy legacy of President Barack Obama’s eight years in office. It brought a variety of senior officials and policy experts to Georgetown, exploring the administration’s successes, challenges, and regrets alike.
