Senator Mike Lee, elected to the Senate in 2010, joined students to share his perspective on conservatism — what it meant then and into the future. Going through his history in politics and personal philosophy developed over the years, Lee shared insights on how the Republican Party and conservative thought has evolved since the Reagan era. Lee said, “We’ve had this great engine in America that has been the greatest influence on the most number of people leaving poverty and entering the middle class than almost anywhere in the world. Some of that has been challenged by government policies that make it harder for people to do that.”
