Waleed Shahid

Waleed Shahid is a Democratic strategist and movement organizer who has made significant contributions to progressive politics in the United States. With a career spanning over a decade, Shahid has worked on various pivotal causes, including co-founding the recent Uncommitted campaign. His six-year tenure as the spokesperson for Justice Democrats is particularly notable, during which he played a key role in launching the Green New Deal campaign and successfully recruiting and electing working-class progressives such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, and Summer Lee.
In addition to his work with Justice Democrats, Shahid has served in several influential political roles. He was a senior advisor to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s groundbreaking campaign and worked as a staffer and DNC delegate for Bernie Sanders in 2016. Shahid also served as the Policy Director for Cynthia Nixon’s gubernatorial campaign against Andrew Cuomo. His expertise in progressive politics has been widely recognized, with his writings on the Democratic Party appearing in The Nation and his commentary on the 2020 presidential contenders featured in the New York Times. The New Yorker has identified him as part of "the next generation of the progressive elite.”
