The GU Politics Slack group chat offered an open platform for opinions and lively exchanges during both debates. Dozens of students participated, sharing hundreds of messages and contributing to a sense of community that many have sorely missed since the switch to virtual learning. When asked if the Slack live chat was a helpful way to get in touch with the community at Georgetown, Leyla Hagan (SFS ‘24) responded, “Yeah, definitely, and it made the debate more engaging”.
Post-debate discussion groups, led by Executive Director Mo Elleithee, were conducted over Zoom to analyze the performance of both candidates and discuss on the bottom line of the debates.
“Diving into campaign strategy was a really refreshing and interesting discussion. I hadn’t thought too deeply about the fact that each candidate constructs their debate performance to convey a message that their campaign might have failed to deliver in the past, and learning that makes me view the debates in general in a more holistic way,” said one of the discussion attendees, Dalia Liu (MSB ‘24).
