Title: Remembering Mia Love

Today, the GU Politics community joins so many others in mourning the passing of former U.S. Representative, and Fall 2020 GU Politics Fellow, Mia Love.
Mia was a trailblazer who embodied the Georgetown value that we are all “women and men for others.” The first Black woman Republican elected to Congress, she often reached across the aisle in service of her constituents. As a GU Politics Fellow during the pandemic, our students benefitted each week from her experience, insight, electric personality, and trademark optimism. And even though all of her discussion groups and office hours were remote, she provided our students with one of the greatest gifts possible at the time — a sense of connection and community with Georgetown and one another, while pushing them to explore their role in shaping the future of public service.
Mia often told me how much our students inspired her and gave her hope for the future. I know that, for the students who were lucky to work with her, her legacy and impact lives on. I also know that Mia would say she was the lucky one. She will be sorely missed.
