GU Politics welcomed students to its first-ever mock caucus on Wednesday. The event, mimicking the real Iowa Caucus, offered students the chance to debate, campaign, and advocate for their chosen candidates currently competing in both the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries. It was a fun and effective learning experience about this unique political process for Georgetown students.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton won the night with 89% of delegates against Bernie Sanders’ 11%, and Martin O’Malley under the threshold. Alternately, the top three Republican candidates were: Marco Rubio at 30%, John Kasich at 20%, Jeb Bush at 15%.
This event was co-sponsored by College Democrats, College Republicans, and the Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition.
