Mo Elleithee is the founding Executive Director of Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service, the first institute of its kind in the nation’s capital.

Before launching the institute in 2015, Mo spent two decades as one of the top communications strategists in the Democratic Party, most recently as Communications Director and chief spokesman of the Democratic National Committee.

A veteran of four presidential campaigns, Mo was Senior Spokesman and Traveling Press Secretary on Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign. He served as a senior advisor and strategist for Senator Tim Kaine’s campaigns for Governor and U.S. Senate, and has worked on numerous other statewide and local races in every region of the country.

A frequent political commentator on television and radio, Mo was named a FOX News contributor in 2016. He was a founding partner of Hilltop Public Solutions, one of Washington’s leading political consulting and public affairs firms. He’s been recognized on Washington Life Magazine’s “Power 100” list; as a “Top Influencer” by Campaigns & Elections Magazine; and featured on Washingtonian Magazine’s “Guest List.”

Mo earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, and an M.A. in Political Management from The George Washington University. He lives in Washington with his wife and two children, and can often be found at the Verizon Center (or on Twitter during the off-season) cheering on his beloved Hoya basketball team.

Spend time with my kids.

Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
I try to play 30 minutes of Xbox every night before going to bed. Helps me decompress.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
Interacting with political professionals on both sides of the aisle that share a commitment to doing politics better. And, more importantly, interacting with students that are so much smarter than we are!

What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
An early mentor told me that every job I take should allow me to do things: expand my skills, and expand my network.

If you could have lunch with someone dead or alive, fictional or real, who would it be?
Hagrid. Because, obviously…

Where is your favorite place in the world?
Miami is my happy place. Also dying to get back to Sydney.

A favorite memory from college…
Staffing Rosa Parks as a student volunteer at an event during the 1992 Democratic National Convention in New York City. Still the highlight of my political career.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
I’m obsessed with Black Mirror, and eagerly awaiting the release of season 4 on Netflix at the end of December. In the meantime, I’m binge watching Borgen (on iTunes), The Bureau (on Sundance Channel), Better Call Saul (on Netflix) and about to start The Crown (on Netflix).
