Reflections on Running: Mike Huckabee

On March 2nd, 2016, GU Politics hosted Mike Huckabee, former Republican Presidential nominee and governor, for a Reflections on Running event.

The day after Super Tuesday, Mike Huckabee joined students in a conversation moderated by GU Politics Executive Director Mo Elleithee for the first in our series, Reflections on Running. This series brings former candidates for elected office to the Hilltop for a candid campaign debrief, pulling back the curtain for Georgetown students on what it’s like to run for office at the highest level. Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007, ran for the Republican presidential candidacy in both 2008 and 2016.

Defending Donald Trump against dissent within the GOP, Huckabee implored other Republicans to endorse the likely nominee. Noting the serious investment and infrastructure his party provides to all candidates, he concluded, “So you have a sense of, really, obligation I think to be loyal to the party and to its nominee.”
