Alexandria, VA - IJ.com and the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service partnered up recently for Hack the Debate, a hackathon bringing together teams in digital, technology, and journalism to compete and pitch ideas on how to bring millennials and larger numbers of Americans into the presidential debate process.
IJ.com Founder and CEO Alex Skatell stated, “I think anytime you have an opportunity to reach as many people as these debates do – 24 million people watched the first debate, more than watched the World Series – not listening to my generation's ideas on how to make it a better process is a missed opportunity.”

Hack the Debate panel participants included Gerritt Lansing and Matt Compton, the Digital Directors from the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee respectively; Digital Content Next CEO Jason Kint; Account Executive for U.S. Politics at Google Steve Johnston; Sean Evins, Twitter Government and Politics; and Paul Singer, USA Today Washington Correspondent.
The judging panel at Hack the Debate was comprised of Robin Sproul, Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief at ABC News; Peter Cherukuri, Executive Vice President for Advertising and Business Development at Politico; Katie Harbath, Director of Public Policy at Facebook; and Carl Sceusa, Chief Technology Officer at IJ.com.
