In 2018, we assisted around 25% of undergraduate students with voter registration and absentee ballot requests ahead of the federal, state, and local midterm elections. See some of our highlights below:
- We piloted the Voter Dropbox Program with support from the Georgetown Office of Residential Living, a first-of-its-kind initiative to simplify the absentee ballot request process for college students. Using the newly developed Georgetown Voter Portal, students simply entered their voter registration or absentee ballot request information online, printed their form, and brought it to one of six dropboxes located in offices and residential communities across campus. There, they found pre-stamped envelopes and a secure dropbox to submit their request forms, which were mailed out nightly by GU Votes staff.
- We continued our Storm the Dorms tradition on National Voter Registration Day, tabling in residential communities and student spaces across campus with volunteers from several campus clubs and organizations. Held in late September, this event kicked off the voting season at Georgetown and helped hundreds of Hoyas exercise their right to vote.
- We sent thousands of personalized emails to undergraduate and graduate students in partnership with the Georgetown Office of Federal Relations and several graduate school deans. Each email included state-specific voting information with deadlines and general resources for voting absentee.
