Georgetown Institute of Politics & Public Service To Host Virtual “Reflections on Running” Event With Mayor Pete Buttigieg

WHAT: The Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service (GU Politics) at the McCourt School of Public Policy, College Democrats, and the Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition will host Mayor Pete Buttigieg for a virtual forum event on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:30 PM (EDT). This virtual conversation is the latest installment of GU Politics’ “Reflections on Running” series.
“Mayor Pete” served as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana from 2012 to 2020. Buttigieg made history when he became the first openly gay Democratic candidate for president, launching his campaign for the nomination in April 2019. After winning the Iowa caucuses and the support of millions across the country, Buttigieg ended his presidential campaign and endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden in March 2020.
In a conversation moderated by GU Politics’ Executive Director Mo Elleithee, Buttigieg will discuss what motivated his race for the presidency, what he learned about the American people during the campaign process, and how those lessons could apply to the current COVID-19 crisis the country is currently facing.
Launched in 2016, the GU Politics “Reflections on Running” series brings former presidential candidates together with students for a candid conversation, pulling back the curtain on what it’s like to run for the highest office in the nation, and what lessons they took away.
