Announcing GU Politics’ “Virtual Summer 2020!”

by GU Politics

Dear friend of GU Politics,

Get ready for summer programming!

Typically, we offer limited programming at GU Politics during the summer break. But then we thought: policymakers grappling with the response to the COVID-19 crisis aren’t taking a summer break. The presidential campaigns aren't taking a summer break. And (unfortunately) social distancing isn’t taking a summer break.

So, we decided, neither will we.

That means a full summer of our signature virtual forum events, discussion groups, and career programming. Exclusive one-on-one access to top practitioners through summer office hours. And a full slate of our student-run programs that spotlight and elevate the voices of current Hoyas.

It’s never been more important for us all to rally our networks and do a deep dive on the role of politics and public service in our everyday lives.

That’s what we do at GU Politics. We hope you’ll come do it with us this summer.

  • Office Hours: Starting in June, we're bringing back a number of past Fellows and (for the first time) members of the GU Politics advisory board for summer office hours. Visit our website to sign up for one-on-one meetings as they become available!
  • Virtual Forum Events: We're going to keep hosting exclusive conversations with the biggest names in politics, government, and the media, and giving students the opportunity to join in and ask questions.
  • Career Chats & Clinics: It’s never too early to think about your next internship or job. And GU Politics is here to support your ongoing learning and professional development through virtual career workshops and clinics. Check out our first summer workshop, "Bring Out Your Inner Storyteller," here and stay tuned for upcoming opportunities on our website and Facebook events page.
  • Student-Run Programming: GU Votes, our student-led initiative working to enhance the voting culture at Georgetown, will continue to help register students to vote and communicate changes to local, state, and national elections. On the Record will continue to feature student perspectives on political issues of the day. And our student-run podcast, "Fly On The Wall", will be releasing its first-ever summer season!
  • Director's Discussions: If you miss our Fellows’ Discussion Groups, don’t worry! Over the summer, we’ll continue this tradition virtually, through conversations with GU Politics Executive Director Mo Elleithee. Sign up here if you're interested in participating!

Be sure to follow us on all of our social channels (FacebookYouTubeand Twitter) for the latest announcements. As always, if you have feedback or ideas about our programming, feel free to email us directly at gupolitics@georgetown.edu. We’d love to hear from you, and look forward to seeing you virtually all summer long!

Hoya Saxa,
Mo Elleithee (SFS ‘94)
