Join us on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 5:45pm-6:45pm in the GU Politics Offices for a Happy Hour with GU Politics Spring 2019 Fellow Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Throughout the semester McCourt will host the GU Politics Fellows for intimate conversations on a variety of topics and news of the day. This is an opportunity for McCourt students to interact with the Fellows outside of the traditional discussion groups.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen proudly served Florida’s 27th Congressional District from 1989-2019 and was the first Hispanic woman to serve in Congress.

She was born in Havana, Cuba in July 1952. At the age of eight, her family was forced to flee from the oppressive communist regime of Fidel Castro. The family settled in Miami and put down permanent roots in the community. She began her career as a Florida certified teacher. In 1982, Ileana was elected to the Florida State House of Representatives and the Florida Senate in 1986, becoming the first Hispanic woman to serve in either body. In the state legislature, she sponsored the legislation for the Florida Pre Paid College Program, which is now the largest pre-paid college tuition program in the nation. More than one million Florida families have used this program to send their children to college.

We hope you can join us!

* This event is exclusive to McCourt School students and is co-sponsored with the Latin American Policy Association (LAPA).
